Theatre

Technical Theatre: The fundamentals on building and designing elements used in the theatre. We discuss topics covering scenery, lighting, properties, sound, makeup, and costumes. Students also learn to operate the theatric technology and work events and shows in the auditorium.

Theatre: In a theatre class, students create, take risks, and eventually perform. Mutual trust is vital to the success of the class and the development of student potential. Theatre students will have an opportunity to learn about and appreciate ensemble, performance spaces, the stage, blocking, acting, stage make-up, improvisation, audience etiquette, play and character analysis, duet scenes, monologues, theatre history, careers in theatre, and an introduction to technical theatre.

Tech Theatre 1, 9-12

Students will learn the fundamentals of Technical Theatre, and basic building techniques.

Tech Theatre 2, 9-12

Advanced skills in Technical Theatre, technology operation and participation in events and show.

Tech Theatre 3, 10-12

Advanced skills in Technical Theatre, technology operation and participation in events and show.

Tech Theatre 4, 10-12

Advanced skills in Technical Theatre, technology operation and participation in events and show.

Top Tech Theatre, 9-12

Advanced skills in Technical Theatre, technology operation and participation in events and show.

Theatre 1, 9-12

Fundamentals of Theatre, play and character analysis, movement, introduction to acting, theatre history, basic stage combat, basic stage make-up, improvisation, monologues/duets, auditioning, audience etiquette and an introduction to technical theatre.

Theatre 2, 9-12

Building upon the concepts and techniques from Theatre 1- Voice, Rena Cook’s Voice & The Young Actor, advanced acting techniques, stage make-up, stage combat, monologues, advanced improvisation, duet acting, stage combat and theatre history.

Theatre 1 Select, 9-12 or The Pony Players

This audition or selection class is considered our JV Top Class. Students will dive deeper into acting techniques, performances, Speech events, and character creation.

Theatre 3-4, 10-12

Playwriting, emotional and sensory recall, classical acting, devised theatre, stage make-up, yoga, musical theatre, dramaturgy, directing, character arc and advanced acting techniques such as Viewpoints, Uta Hagen, Meisner, Laban, Chekov and Stanislavski. Theatre 3-4 will also focus on college auditions, resumes and portfolios.

Top Theatre, 9-12 or The Mustang Players

This audition only class is out most prestigious class. Students will dive deeper into advanced acting techniques and performances.

At Creekview, we offer an exceptional speech program. “In Forensics, students endeavor to interpret a piece of published literature and perform it within the constraints of time and physicality. With tournaments almost every weekend September through February, students are honing their skills in close reading, character development and critical analysis by being exposed to a variety of literature and non-fiction pieces. Additionally, they are vying for points to qualify for various regional and national tournaments late next Spring. Former Creekview Speech Team members have gone on to be National Champions at the university level and have earned scholarships and recognition for their excellence in speaking and performing.”

Audition Information/FAQs

Mustang Players (Top Class - Acting):

Auditions for the Mustang Player Ensemble will be held towards the end of each school year (late April or early May).

Anyone can audition.

Requirements:

1. The student will need to complete the audition forms prior to the audition date.

2. The student cannot have had below a 70 the current school year on any report card.

3. The students parent or guardian will have to join the Theatre & Speech Booster Club and attend the Top Class parent meeting.

Audition Requirements:

The audition requirements are simple.

3 monologues from a play or musical that are 30 seconds (MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM) in length.

Monologues will need to be 1 modern contemporary, 1 comedic, and 1 classical.

Classical doesn't just mean Shakespeare. It is any play that is public PRIOR to 1905.

Mustang Top Tech (Top Class - Tech):

Auditions for the Mustang Top Tech Ensemble will be held towards the end of each school year (late April or early May).

Anyone can audition.

Requirements:

1. The student will need to complete the audition forms prior to the audition date.

2. The student cannot have had below a 70 the current school year on any report card.

3. The students parent or guardian will have to join the Theatre & Speech Booster Club and attend the Top Class parent meeting.

Audition Requirements:

The requirements are as follows:

1. An extended group activity that will be used to observe the students mastery or room for growth in Technical Theatre.

2. A written exam focused on Technical Theatre content.

Theatre I Select: (INCOMING FRESHMAN ONLY)

Theatre I Select is for acting only.

To be selected as part of the Theatre I Select class, the incoming Freshman will need to sign up to take Theatre I through their middle school counselors.

Once the rosters have been input into the high school system, the director will reach out to each of the middle school directors to discuss your progress and dedication. Placement will be decided based off this conversation.

It it still encouraged for incoming Freshman to audition for their respective discipline.

Theatre FAQs:

I have taken theatre before, can I be placed in a higher level? - Yes! If you are in CFB the school year prior, you will need to audition. If you are an incoming CFB student, you are encouraged to audition (if you know the information), if you do not audition a meeting will need to be held with the director, counselor, parent, and student to decide placement.

Booster Club Application

There are two options $25.00 Individual/student level membership or $50.00 Family or corporate level membership. Students will be able to qualify for scholarships their Senior year.

We are a group of enthusiastic supporters of our Theatre and Speech department and its students. We show our support by volunteering our time to make a difference in the school and the community. Our fundraising and volunteer efforts include:

Planning a beginning of the year Howdy Party and an end of year Banquet for the students and parents
Working concession stands, ticket booths & Good Show tables
Preparing cast and crew meals
Chaperoning trips
Serving as tournament judges
And so much more

Please consider joining the Theatre & Speech Booster Club. You will be supporting and staying connected to your student, meeting fellow parents, making a difference by volunteering and having lots of fun. Remember, your membership helps defer the costs of food, travel, and concessions and contributes to scholarship and financial need assistance funds for graduating students.

In order to be considered for a scholarship, the following criteria must be met:

1. A parent or guardian of a student must be a booster club member for the current school year.

2. The booster club membership must be secured with payment by 6 p.m. on the last Friday in

January (1/26/24).

3. Students will be encouraged to participate/work fundraising events, if available.
